St. John's Scrip Program
Scrip
is a fundraising tool used at St. John's Church/School.
St. John's Scrip program utilizes gift certificates
from approximately 40 businesses in Lincoln. These
businesses sell their gift certificates to St. John's
at a discounted price. The church then sells the
certificates at face value to the parishioners.
For example, Russ's Market sells their certificates
to the church at a 5% reduction of face value. St.
John's purchases $10 of Scrip from Russ's for $9.50
and sells it to the parishioners for $10. St. John's
earns a $.50 profit for each $10 gift certificate
sold.
Scrip is unique as
a fundraiser, as the parishioners are not actually
spending any additional money. Scrip is based on
percentages: the more Scrip that is exchanged, the
higher the profit for St. John's Church/School.
Many of the businesses,
such as K-Mart, Shopko, Menards, Dillards, Kohl's
and JCPenney's come in debit cards. Debit cards
do not need to be used all at once — they will carry
a balance. Dillard's, Kohl's, Penney's and Younkers
will accept Scrip as payment on your charge account.
Therefore you can make purchases throughout the
month using your store charge card and then purchase
Scrip to pay your account.
The Scrip Program
at St. John's has funded several projects. Some
of these projects include the new entrance to St.
John's School, outside lighting around the church
and school, and Christmas bonuses for the school
staff. Our current project is the St.
John's Family Park, which involves renovating
our present playground. St. John's Church/School
benefits each time you purchase Scrip.
Scrip is available
for purchase in the shool office during school days.
Scrip is also for sale on Saturday mornings from
9-10am in the rectory, and before and after all
weekend masses in the atrium.
Scrip is also a great
gift idea! For further information, contact Diane
Carson at 466-5862 or 486-1860. You can also contact
