V - We adore You, O Christ, and bless You.
+ - Because by Your holy cross You have
redeemed the world.

My Jesus, blest, thrice blest was he who
helped You to bear the cross. Blest too
shall I be if I help You to bear the cross, by patiently bowing my neck to the crosses
You shall send me during life. My Jesus,
give me grace to do so.

Our Father.... Hail Mary.... Glory be
to the Father....

V - Jesus Christ Crucified.
+ - Have mercy on Us.
V - May the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, Rest in peace.
+ - Amen.

Can the human heart refrain
from partaking in her pain
in that Mother's pain untold?

The Fifth Station:
Simon of Cyrene helps Jesus to Carry the Cross

Love of God and of neighbor marks the true disciple of Christ. When God was a very close neighbor, Simon of Cyrene hesitated. He had to be compelled to help our Redeemer carry His cross.

When the soldiers realized that Jesus would never reach Calvary without help, they conscripted Simon to carry the cross.

Simon came forward reluctantly, dragging his feet. Nor can we blame him. We, too, turn away from tragedy. Who wants to get involved? And so tragedy's victims suffer on and on.

Prayer
Lord, I find myself caught up too often in my own private world of unpaid bills and minor sicknesses. It's so easy to wall myself off from the world. Help me to realize that there are many outside those walls who have crosses which I can help them carry, and "conscript" me for the task if necessary.
