V - We adore You, O Christ, and bless You.
+ - Because by Your holy cross You have
redeemed the world.

My Jesus, by Your agony when the cruel
nails pierced Your tender hands and feet
and fixed them to the cross, make me
crucify my flesh by Christian penance.

Our Father.... Hail Mary....
Glory be to the Father....

V - Jesus Christ Crucified.
+ - Have mercy on Us.
V - May the souls of the faithful departed,
through the mercy of God, Rest in peace.
+ - Amen.

Let me share with you His pain
Who for all our sins was slain,
Who for me in torments died.

The Eleventh Station:
Jesus is nailed to the Cross

They crucified Him, mocked His dignity and deprived Him of physical freedom. Thus He acquired for us our heritage, the dignity and freedom of the sons of God.

The soldiers shove Jesus onto the cross and pound nails into his hands and feet.

We cannot understand such brutality, such torture. Yet we can be tolerant of brutality which occurs in our society. For example, consider the outrages which sometimes occur in crowded jails and prisons. Can we see the difference between just punishment for offenders, and treatment which is scarcely more humane than driving nails into their limbs?

Prayer
Lord, I have my share of nails, too. A nail is an unexpected hurt, a breakdown in communication with a member of my family. It's a lost opportunity that will never come again, a would-be success that eludes my grasp at the last possible moment. Please help me bear the pain of nails like these.
