V - We adore You, O Christ, and bless You.
+ - Because by Your holy cross You have
redeemed the world.

O Mary, Mother most sorrowful, the sword
of grief pierced thy soul when you did see
Jesus lying lifeless on your bosom; obtain
for me hatred of sin because sin slew your
Son and wounded your own heart, and grace
to live a Christian life and save my soul.

Our Father.... Hail Mary....
Glory be to the Father....

V - Jesus Christ Crucified.
+ - Have mercy on Us.
V - May the souls of the faithful departed,
through the mercy of God, Rest in peace.
+ - Amen.

By the Cross with You to stay
there with you we weep and pray
Is all I ask of you to give.

The Thirteenth Station:
Jesus is taken from the cross and laid in Mary's arms

At the end of our earthly journey we, like our blessed Redeemer, are taken down from the cross of this life. United with Him in the likeness of His death, we shall be so in the likeness of His resurrection also.

Friends come forward to claim the body of Jesus. Tenderly they take him down from the cross and place him in the arms of his mother.

To the friends of Jesus the darkness of that moment must have seemed unconquerable. Likewise, the complex problems facing us can sometimes seem insurmountable. By her complete faith and trust at this time, Mary points out a way through the darkness to light.

Prayer
Lord, I am tempted at times to be discouraged by the events of my life and the problems besetting society. Please lighten the darkness of such moments and grant me a small measure of Mary's trust and faith.
